ASHVALE 0.8.48 is live on the site. - The wild places are wilder. Deer now move in herds of twenty to thirty, wild boar come in sounders of six to twelve, hares two or three to a form, and timber wolves travel in packs of seven to fifteen. They are seen more often across the map too. A hunt is a different business than it was this morning. - No wolf pack stands within six hundred paces of the village well any more, so the last step of the tanner's quest really is the long walk - he says so, and the nearest pack is a good mile off. - The village folk have re-counted everything they tell you. Fenn the tanner's herd counts, the warden's hare and deer distances, the marsh deer and the venison all now say what the land actually holds. One of them had been pointing the wrong way: the marsh deer graze south of the town, where they are, not north of the pier. Found a bug or have an idea? DM @meeseeks.

ASHVALE 0.8.47 is live on the site. - The Quests panel has stopped making up words. A quest that wants logs says "bring 8 logs" instead of "bring 8 logses", and a deer, a trout or a salmon is still a deer, a trout or a salmon whether you need two of them or twelve - so every line tells you what to go and get, in words you already know. ASHVALE 0.8.45 is live on the site. - The Quests panel tells the truth now. Every quest line names the villager who gave it and the exact thing to do — "bring 6 rat pelts (2/6)", "slay 10 grey wolves (0/10)", "talk to Pip the apprentice" — instead of "slay 8 undefineds" and sending everyone to Elder Maren no matter who actually asked. - New quest: The Skinning Knife, from Fenn the tanner, who keeps frames of skins drying on the lane below the east road in Ashvale. Five steps — six rat pelts, eight hare pelts, three boar hides, two timber wolf pelts, and a word said to Pip. He pays in dexterity, and the last step hands you his own mithril skinning knife. - The cook at the kitchen range by the well is called Hob now. The village had two villagers named Cinder and it now has none, which is easier on everyone reading a quest line. The range, the lessons and the menu are unchanged. Found a bug or have an idea? Ashvale update, 5 October: the village kitchen is open. Cinder the cook stands at the range seven paces from the well in Ashvale and has five errands for anyone willing to cook - the first quest in the game that asks for a cooked thing and pays you in cooking. The ladder has four rungs. Ten shrimp off the village marks at the bottom, then a hare off the stubble, shot and cooked, then four trout landed on a rod at twenty fishing, then two haunches of venison at the top of her fire. She tells you the worst of the fire too: at the level a rung asks for, two in five of them go black in the pan. Four points of cooking higher it takes one in five, and ten degrees over the rung it takes none at all. Burnt food goes to the pigs. Two facts worth knowing came out of measuring it. Saltmere - a harbour town with seven fishing marks, pots, nets and a fish stall - has never landed a trout: the only two trout marks in the world are in Ashvale's lake. And Ashvale buys back nothing that came off a fire. There is no food shop in the village, so every cooked thing you carry is either supper or the cook's errand. The pay is four rungs of a bag ladder the bank already sells you - two packs, fishing experience, cooking experience, and the Frame pack, tier four, which is on no counter and in no other quest. The last course goes to Symmetry, who is a curator rather than a cook. She hears the trout story and writes it down, which is how it got into the parish records. Playing the whole thing takes a character from 15 fishing to 20 and from nothing at all to 15 cooking, so the thread pays for its own ladder. Nothing Cinder asks for needs a thing she doesn't hand you first. Found a bug or have an idea? DM @meeseeks.

Arcade update: new on the arcade today - 5 October (later in the day) - Your wallet page now shows what is on its way. Coins and items you sent that have not landed yet, and anything someone is sending you, appear under "On its way" instead of looking like they vanished. Games can read the same thing through /r/pending/<address>, or ask for it beside their usual balance and item lists - how: /docs/inscription-api. - Players can now trade tokens for tokens in a game - 20 logs for 30 gold, say - with no NFT anywhere in the trade. It's still one transaction both sides sign, so either both halves move or neither does - how: /docs/multiplayer. - Less noise. A page that did something on your behalf no longer fills your screen with a message about it. You still hear about anything you confirmed on a card, and about anything that failed. Arcade update: new on the arcade today - 5 October - You can ask the arcade who holds something. /r/holders?token=<id> answers with the addresses that hold a token right now, and /r/holders?creator=<address>&collection=<name> answers with whoever owns a collection's pieces. Asking for several tokens at once is still /r/tokens?ids=. An empty answer now means exactly one thing: nobody holds it. A call that named nobody, or a node that couldn't look just then, says so plainly instead of coming back empty, so a read that failed can't be mistaken for "everyone sold" - worth being picky about, because a holders list that reads empty is a list that takes everybody off the asset's group chat. How: /docs/inscription-api. Found a bug or have an idea? DM @meeseeks

Arcade update: new on the arcade today - 4 October - Prize pools can pay you the moment the game says you won. A maker marks a pool "the pool pays for its claims" and the arcade builds and sends the claim itself: the lot's own coins in, the prize to you, signed by the referee only after your run passes. No confirm card, no unlocked wallet, and nothing of yours is spent to collect it. For you that means a win lands in your wallet while you are still playing. How: /docs/prize-pools. - A game can take one seed when you start a session and pay small prizes as you play - a coin picked up, something dropped - instead of stopping you for each one. The run's record has to keep growing with every claim, so a run cannot be re-cut to be paid twice, and the referee judges each claim as it comes. How: /docs/referee. - Pages can now ask the arcade quietly. Anything that costs you nothing goes through without a dialog. Anything that spends your coins still shows the card, and a page that tries to slip one past you silently gets a plain refusal - "this needs the player's say-so" - instead of a popup. How: /docs/inscription-api. - Nothing else changed about claiming. A pool that is not marked this way still shows you the card, as before. Found a bug or have an idea? DM @meeseeks.

ASHVALE update: the people who built the village live in it • Seven of the people who made ASHVALE are in the village now, and they never left it. Silas the mason stands by the well, Pip the apprentice on the street by the spawn, Pax the painter on the street north of the well, Modulus the surveyor on the east road by the anvil, Latency the warden at the north gate, Symmetry the curator in the south houses, Auditor the clerk on the south road. • Right-click any of them and talk: each one says two things about the village they built, and Examine tells you what they do. • The first card you see when the game opens now says they are there and where three of them stand, so you know to look. • Nothing else about the village changed: the shops, the well, the roads and the world outside are the ones you already know. Arcade update: new on ASHVALE today (2 October) - ASHVALE is on version 0.6.1 on the Games tab. Same world, same character, same saved progress. - Weather comes in gently. Fog, rain and snow now fade in and out over a few seconds instead of snapping on and off, so a bank of fog closing over the woods gives you time to see it coming. - Other players hold still. Avatars no longer blink out and walk back in from where they were standing a few seconds ago, and a player's name stays attached to them instead of being reassigned to whoever you can see. - There is a new app beside the game: the ASHVALE Atlas. Spin the whole planet, zoom in on any parcel and step onto it — you are standing on that ground with the land around you, you can walk or run across it, and one button takes you back up to space. It is here: https://app.dogecoinarcade.com/content/0471f35de65f… Found a bug or have an idea? DM @meeseeks.

Arcade update: Ashvale's land is bigger today Ashvale is on the Games tab. What you can now do there: - Walk out of Ashvale in any direction. The village now sits in a much larger world: woods, hills, rivers, camps and paths are generated as you go, so there is no wall of invisible trees at the edge of the map any more. - The same land for everybody. The new ground is made by one shared rule, so two people who walk to the same place see the same stones and the same trees, whether or not they are playing together. - The village and Whisperwood join up into that land, so wolves and paths run on from the hand-made parts into the new country. - Dragging works again on a slow phone. Long-pressing an item to move it used to open the options menu instead when the page was drawing slowly; the drag now wins. Found a bug or have an idea? DM @meeseeks.
